Crafting Changes

So you've got your job and are wondering what the hell you can do to level up. Amirite?

First things first, let's get to know the crafting system a little bit.

Who can craft what without Tax?!

These are what we call short names - how Rust identifies the entities/items in game. The names won't be exactly what you're familiar with but you should get the drift.

You said Tax...

If you try to craft something outside your profession. e.g. Miner's crafting one of the items listed under weaponsmith. You'll get charged a tax in scrap based on the tier of workbench needed to craft those items.

  • T1: 100
  • T2: 250
  • T3: 1000

e.g. you're a Miner and want to craft an AK, alongside the component costs you'll also be charged 1000 scrap.

If you're a miner and want to craft something above your level (more on that shortly), then you just simply won't be able to (not ideal as it should charge you the tax, but that's how it currently works).

Crafting levels?!

Crafters start off at level 0. Yes 0. As above, you also won't be able to craft things in your category until you are the appropriate level.

"OK. So how do I gain levels?"

  1. Crafting items you can craft.

A lot of players have had success with garage doors, as the items you use to craft an item have a bearing on how much XP you get from it. Primary resources such as cloth or met frags, not that much, but things that use springs, gears and the like - much better.

The items you craft, like garage doors, don't have to be from your own crafting area. So as a weaponsmith, you could craft anything in free craft too.

The other way to gain a significant amount of XP is by:

2. Research

Researching items will grant you a significant bonus according the crafting xp you would ordinarily get.

But what's it all for?

Well, the higher your level the more things you can craft and the better over time you'll be able to craft them. You'll occassionalluy gain levels in the items you craft, allowing you to craft 1-5 star variants of the items.

And example below with an, as of now, uncraftable SKS.

I always forget about /ct

By clicking the stars of the item, you can see the stats it has rolled. This is random. You can get some useless stats like Durable on Pants or nice ones like Lethal on weapons

Starred Gear will also, when equipped, ammend the original resistance bars in the player inventory screen. As you can see from below you'll be able to achieve ridiculously high (read subject-to-change) stats.

How do we keep track of it all?

There's a new menu that you can access with the Crafting+ app on the phone - you have got your phone right? - Clicking it will bring up the interface with everything you've crafted and it's levels.

By clicking either the general category (see Melee below)...

...or the individual items until they're highlighted in blue (see Pants below)...

...you'll also be able to track these on the main Rust UI, next to the task bar.

You'll also be able to see your chances of rolling better items. See the Hoodie crafting at level 79 with a 5% chance of getting a 5* version.

And finally you can also see your bonuses for that category too, along with how many resources you've used!

If you have any other questions regarding the new crafting experience feel free to shout in the Discord or in General and either myself or one of our friendly Sunset Valleyians (spelling pending? - will look fine when in the merch store) will be sure to help!
